St. Andrews, Scotland – 2010 World Deaf Golf Championships

USA Teams

The United States Deaf Golfers continued to participate at the 8th World Deaf Golf Championships. The event played at the Sam Torrance Golf Course, Fairmont – St. Andrews, Scotland, provided a strong challenge for the worlds best deaf golfers.

International Flags

USA Men Team

The US Men’s team unfortunately didn’t play up to their defending championship expectations.  They were placed in fifth place, by 41 strokes behind the home team, Scotland. Australia team and England team came in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. The Sam Torrance Golf course proved that it was very difficult to play, tall grass on the both rough sides, lots of blind bunkers in the fairway, and greens were fast. The wacky weather was also a huge factor – raining, windy, gusty and cold daily which was unpredictable.

USA Men’s Individual Results

Doren Granberry (CA) came in 6th place individual with the scores of 81-79-78-79.  Dano Aldaz (CO) shot 91-79-78-77 and placed 12th place.  Mike Houston (TX) -87-81-93-88 -35th place, Daryn Taylor (FL) – 90-95-88-90 – 45th place, Jed Barish (TX) – 91-95-91-96 – tied for 53rd place and Tim Dapp (MD) – 83-83-87 and he, unfortunately withdrew after 12th hole due to an injury.

USA Women Team

The USA Women’s Team won the championship by 45 strokes over Team Ireland as the defending champ, Australia only brought one golfer – Jennifer Maric as the former champion, Linda Davis decided not to participate this year.   A new team made their debut for the first time was from South Africa, which was placed in third place.  Melissa Stockton (UT) made her first appearance at the WDGC and won the Women’s Individual Championship!  She shot 86-93-93-91.  Patty Sue Ploysa (NY) placed in 2nd place, her 2nd consecutive in a row, shot 91-93-91-93. Susan Zupnik (NJ) – 91-93-95-93 – placed in 5th, Lauri Ponikiewski (MI) – 97-90-97-99 – 8th place and Lynn Williams (MA) – 102-94-99-90 in 9th place.
